This excursion to the Lago Enriquillo is not only ideal to get to know the Dominicans and their island, but as well leads you to one of the last national parks. We start towards Barahona, passing by Santo Domingo and make a little stop at the aquarium. It´s not only a pleasure to see the landscape on this trip, but at the same time you get to know a lots of interesting things. We pass for instance the native town of the dictator Trujillo, called San Cristobal. During this trip enjoy an impressing cross-section of the most different climate zones of the Dominican Republic, tropical woods, drying areas, cactus of several meters high, and at the same time, green oasis.

The town Barahona was already famous in the 18th century, because it was an ideal hiding place for the pirates, the most famous one was Cofresi. The real foundation of the town was made in 1802 by the Haitian ruler L`Ouverture. After a break in the hotel for refreshing, we will start a round trip through „Cote d´Azur“ of the Caribbean. Enjoy this unique landscape with the natural pools and take the chance to see in the place Bahoruco how people work with the stone larimar. Larimar is unique in the world and you find it only in this place. The next day we start towards Lago Enriquillo. We reach the foothills after a short while. This salted lake is 12 km wide and 42 km long and is the biggest inland water in the Caribbean, situated 40m below sea level.

This area was declared a national park, in order to protect the crocodiles, iguanas, flamingos and other animals which live here. We will take a boat to the Island Cabritos and make a walk on the island in order to watch these unique and nearly last kind of crocodiles.

In case you hear a rustle in the bushwood, don´t get afraid, because the iguanas living here don´t have any natural enemies and that`s why they are very friendly. After having visited this island, have a refreshing bath in the sulphurous fountain called LA AZUFRADA which is said to be a fountain of youth.
The next stop is said to be the most historical place of discovery of the Taino culture. It is called THE THRONE OF ENRIQUILLO. Here, the legendary cacique of the tainos had his most favourite place. You understand why this place is a holy spot for the godnesses of former times. Take your lunch at „LA DESCUBIERTA“. Have a little siesta or are you enncouraged enough, have a bath in the clear mountain water.

Then we go back again, in the direction of Jimani, the busy frontier village where you can find people 24 hours. From here we go to the South, along the Lago Enriquillo crossing the beautiful mountains of the Sierra de Barahona.
